COVA x Jessica

COVA is an engineering firm that offers innovative engineered design solutions to the built environment and an EPC Contractor within the heavy industrial market. COVA prides itself on being a business that supports workplace diversity, valuing the differences of others in culture, nationality, and gender.

One of the inspiring women of COVA is Jessica Montero Munoz, originating from Colombia, but now calls Tasmania home.

Who is Jessica?

Jess commenced her studies in Colombia, in Industrial Engineering, specialising in Logistics, Renewable Energy and quality control. After a break from her studies and moving to the US to study English for six-months, she returned to Colombia to both graduate and commence employment in the industry. Jess is fluent in Spanish, French and English.

Jess’ landed in Perth as her first stop in Australia, but not long after that relocated to Hobart to study an Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management. With COVID then hitting the Australian shores, Jess decided to continue her studies & complete a Diploma in Logistics, where she went to TasNetworks to participate in a three-month project; implementing systems relating to infield observations and assessments to ensure company compliance.

Jess was selected as an International Student Ambassador in 2020 where she launched an event called ‘Connect’ bringing together International Students at UTAS, focusing on the well-being and mental health of the community.

Jess started her employment with COVA within the industrial PMO team, as Project Administrator, where she has been supported through various roles to now become a Certified Project Officer, through the globally recognised Institute of Project Management.

Having a diverse and multicultural workplace brings many advantages. COVA encourages the industry to take advantage of the diverse range of skills individuals from different backgrounds and cultures can bring. Greater than 25% of COVA’s workforce being female and many of those being from a non-English speaking background.
